How long do I charge my new rechargeable battery for the first time?:
For the first 3 charge cycles you should charge your rechargeable battery until it is full, usually overnight, then use it until it is completely empty. This will condition your battery and therefore optimise its performance for the future. It is advisable to repeat this charge cycle 2 or 3 times for your rechargeable battery to reach it's maximum capacity.
This treatment is critical for a NiMH type of battery but far less critical for a li-ion or li-pol type of battery but it is still advisable. The NiMH type of battery was famous for having a memory effect which means that it would only recharge as much as it's last charge which means over time the capacity would diminish.
